GIS (geographical information system) is a computer software and hardware combination that provides a platform for managing and analyzing geospatial information. In combination with global positioning systems (GPS), GIS offers a method to acquire, store and manage information that carries a spatial reference to real-world positions. Because a GIS also contains an associated database, features (attributes) can be linked to any mapped object. Due to the usefulness of GIS for mapping and managing spatial features, Water Right Solutions, Inc. offers mapping services to help clients inventory their property resources including:
We map these features rapidly and accurately using a Trimble Pro XRS mapping-grade GPS to build a database, or inventory, of features. Air photos, satellite images and USGS topographical maps can all serve as base layers, with the inventoried features mapped on top as layers. Once assembled, we can print high-quality maps on our large-format plotter (up to 42 inches wide) that are suitable for framing. Because personal computers are continually dropping in price and growing in power, many of our clients also wish to retain a digital copy of the resource inventory. With the available free software, clients can view data layers either all together or in any desired combination.
Water Right Solutions has extensive mapping experience with over 40 years of combined experience in geologic, hydrogeolgic and water-rights mapping. The maps below show aquifer vulnerability and geologic mapping projects conducted at Big Sky, Montana.
